The safety of handling a vehicle along with the road type in the summer as well as the winter season is surely a challenging task. The studded tyres are used in the winter season and it became popular in the Scandinavian countries in 1950 onwards. Later in the 1960s it was used in the US roads amidst the chilling winter and the hot summer season. Modern studded ones have got advanced technical improvements and it is used to increase the grip of the tyre with the road and it also emphasizes the safety of the pavement wear outs. There are about 60 to 120 small metal studs inserted in a studded model tyre.

The studs are made up of an extremely hard metal called the tungsten carbide and each stud weighs about 1.7 to 1.9 grams and it does protrude to about 1.5 mm from the surface of the tyre (In Finnish rengas). Small metal jackets are embedded with tungsten carbide pins and it is finely aligned on the external surface of the car's wheels. These studs are known to increase the friction of the wheels when the car/vehicle is driven on thick snow/mud in the roads. The studs also have a subtle movement which paves way for easy movement of the wheels. The carbide pins are finely fixed so that it does move back into its small jacket when the external forces acts upon it above a certain critical level. This type of stud movement is termed as a controlled protrusion stud movement and it maintains a near constant protrusion length even when they tyre is at rest.

Know about stud less summer tyres

The stud less summer tyres have been designed by many companies with numerous features and innovations which has caused excellent high speed driving and its ultra high performance is worthy to be noted .The excellent wide groves on the externals of the summer tyres (In Finnish kesärenkaat) ensure the vehicle to move safely in cool spring mornings/early autumns and even when the temperature of the environment drops below 10 degree Celsius. It is true that all the safety driving conditions of the vehicle depends upon the vital wheels as it plays a major role in acceleration and braking systems of the vehicle. Due to huge demands from a wheel many people have nowadays started giving more importance to the maintenance of the wheels. Apart from maintenance the tyres are so designed by experts that regardless of the weather conditions it sure has hydroplaning properties, being economical in its usage and it just rolls down the road with the consumption of little fuel. It is up to the user to check the pressure of the tyre often and thereby prevent any damages or wear down of it in the long run.
